Chemical free seed treatment with Plasma Activated Water
VitalFluid B.V. together with PETKUS SELECTA BV started this month with 11 well established seed breeding companies on chemical free seed treatments. Earlier tests showed the effectiveness of Plasma Activated Water (PAW) on cleaning seeds from pathogens resulting in healthy seeds with good germination. Beginning 2022 VitalFluid together with Petkus Selecta started a campaign to interest seed companies doing some trials. This campaign was successful and 11 seed breeding companies signed in, between these companies are many different vegetable seed breeders, and flower seed breeders. It was agreed to test over 30 different seed-pathogen combinations. Researchers Ineke Wijkamp (seed technologist) and Danique van de Krieken (microbiologist) performed the tests. The seeds are treated with different concentrations of PAW, and treating times to find out the right treatment for each combination. After treatment the seeds will be tested by the seed breeders on health and germination. VitalFluid is looking forward to the results, which are expected the upcoming months.
VitalFluid partnered up with Petkus Selecta to scale up and combine technologies such as steam. Together they create seed treatment solutions to treat all kind of seed-pathogen combinations. Both companies will be present at the event Seed meets Technology 27-29 september in the Netherlands.
